Why I Tap Every Day (and Why You Might Want To, Too)

So, since learning EFT tapping, I have consistently used it most days, it has become just part of my daily habits, and I think it’s the nest habit I have.

I liken it to taking out the trash every day. Say for example you had something really messy and smelly that you put in your rubbish bin in your kitchen. Maybe some out of date chicken. Imagine leaving it in the bin overnight and maybe into the next day. It’s going to start to smell, and it will start to stink the house out. But if you chuck the out-of-date chicken and the rest of the rubbish out into the main rubbish bin outside of the house you’ve got rid of the problem.

Now imagine you had a crappy disagreement with your boss at work. One that was unpleasant and left you feeling pissed off. You don’t get to resolve it before you leave work and when you get home you are still annoyed. You cannot shake it off. You feel a tension in your chest and when the kids ask for a snack straight after dinner you snap at them and instantly feel guilty. But you cannot shake off the annoyance at your boss and the tightness in your chest. The rest of the evening is crap, and you fall into bed shattered but still annoyed. You end up with a restless sleep and wake up the next day feeling down and negative.

BUT imagine instead you had a self-help tool that would have helped you work through the crappy disagreement before you even got home. Imagine after the disagreement you went into the bathroom at work and “tapped” on that instant feeling of annoyance you had and the tension in your chest. Maybe just enough to get you feeling better. You then get home and take yourself off alone for 10 minutes to tap some more and release some more of the annoyance and maybe hit on why it annoyed you so much. You get to the point where either you just shrug it off, or to a point where you see your boss’s point of view as well. Enough that you know you will be able to have a calm and balanced conversation with them the next day, where you will get your point across and will feel better. You then feel calm enough to go back to your family and enjoy the rest of the evening. The “bad smell” of the disagreement with your boss is no longer present or affecting you so strongly.

This is the power of using EFT for everyday discomforts or issues.

You don’t have to hold on to that which doesn’t serve you in anyway, give yourself permission to let that shit go.

Here is a short list of stuff I have “tapped on” recently. It’s not everything I have tapped on, but it gives you an idea of the variety of stuff that you can work on yourself or with the support of a practitioner:

·        The stress of not being able to find an important document that I needed – calmed me down enough to remember where I had put it

·        Having a quiet week at work and worrying about money

·        Not having the motivation to go to the gym

·        Annoyance at someone in my life

·        Stress and trauma around my beauty salon going bankrupt in 2020 – was still holding on to stuff – this was a big one I worked through in a session with a practitioner

Plus other stuff!!

And it helps every time. Perhaps it’s not an instant ooh I feel so much better for everything, but over the days I notice changes, I do things different, I wake up more rested, things feel easier.

There has been research that shows that cortisol, the stress hormone reduces during EFT tapping which I believe helps your stress response to calm down and your body to file an experience away as “no need to react to anymore”.

I also believe that because I use EFT so much, I can work through issues a lot quicker, I have a lot more nervous system flexibility, and I can find calm a lot quicker. I spend a lot more time chilled than I do stressed – which was not a familiar state in the past.

So that’s why I tap nearly every day. It’s something that I return to in times of huge stress and it’s also a modality I use when I am feeling good, to help my body recognise and be comfortable with a positive relaxed state.

If you would like to experience a session yourself or learn to use it to help you feel calmer get in touch.
